For my birthday this year, Darin took the day off work again and we had a family day! We decided to go to Science City at Union Station. It has lots of science activities for kids and Maya and Nolan had so much fun! First they had this interactive yoga video. Nolan and Daddy gave it a try. :)
Then they had a music center where you could step on these squares and they changed colors. They also had other music activities like a piano on the ground and some motion-sensing flutes. There was also a science area called "Unplugged" which was designed by some Olathe North students! It has different cranks that turned that energy into electricity. Maya is turning this crank and Nolan is monitoring the lights that are turning on.
They also had one of these electricity balls.
For older kids and adults, there was this high-wire bike. The guy monitoring this activity managed to convince me to try it. First they strapped me in...
And then I rode this bike about 20 feet off the ground. It had 300 pounds of weight hanging from it so it was unable to fall off the wire, but it took some courage to leave the platform for sure!
Oh no! Darin seems to have lost his legs!
Helicopter!
Here is another part of the "Unplugged" exhibit. Nolan walked on this hamster-type wheel and it illuminated a sign above.
We also went to a Big Bird show at the planetarium. What a fun day! I also got a pedicure and was treated to dinner out at my favorite pizza place and a cupcake!
8 days later it was Darin's birthday! Darin's birthday was his ideal day, I think. A day at home with nothing to do! I don't have any pictures of that since it was my typical day! But I think he had some time to unwind and relax. He and I also had a day to celebrate together while Bob and Gayla watched the kids. We explored Kansas City by taking a tour of The Roasterie (a KC coffee roasting warehouse and shop) and also went to the Nelson-Atkins Gallery of Art. That night we had a wonderful dinner out at our favorite restaurant and saw the movie 42 about Jackie Robinson. What a wonderful day!

What a fun birthday for the both of you! You guys had a fun date day for your celebration too! Love the photos you took, that first one was really cool. That looks like an awesome place, and how amazing that you were brave enough to get on the wire with the bike! Wow! Happy birthday Gretchen and Darin!!
