Memorial Day Weekend

We started our Memorial Day weekend off with a trip to Lake Kahola to visit our friends Monica and Richard on Saturday. I used to work with Monica at Oregon Trail and we have been really great work-out buddies for years. Monica and Richard spent their weekends up at the lake when the weather is nice, so we were so excited to take the kids up for a visit! Here is the view as we were driving through the Flint Hills near the lake.

As you come over the top of a hill, here is the lake! It was kind of an overcast morning as we were leaving (when I took this picture) but it was absolutely beautiful in the sunlight as we drove in.

One of Nolan's favorite things to do was climb on this spiral staircase. It led to the upstairs rooms where we slept. We had to keep close watch on him to make sure he didn't fall!

Time for a swim! When we decided to get into the water, Daddy was in charge of putting swimsuits on. He accidentally put Maya's on backwards which made for an adorable picture. Doesn't she look silly?

After a bit of swimming, we all got on Richard and Monica's boat for a tour of the lake. Daddy was the hot commodity on the boat and the kids took turns getting held by him. The houses on the lake were beautiful and full of character. It was great to see how different each one was.

The Schmanke clan on vacation!!

That evening, we went to a fish fry at a neighbors house. Here Monica and Nolan are taking a stroll down the sidewalk at the neighbors house.

With Daddy and Maya close behind.

We had a little picnic while we ate our dinner and the kids loved it!

But they also loved sitting in the chairs like the adults.

What a big boy!

Thanks Richard and Monica for letting us come stay with you! We had so much fun!!!!

When we got home from the lake on Sunday, we took a trip to Grandad's house to tour his garden. I decided to make that adventure it's own post because there were so many pictures of the kids in his yard. After our visit to Grandad's house, we came home and broke out the water table for the first time. It was a hot day and we decided it was the perfect time to play! Nolan jumped right in and started splashing around and playing with the toys.

Splish splash!

Then Nolan had to have some chair time, of course!

Maya was a little under the weather on Sunday, but she still had some energy to splash. (Notice Nolan's outfit change...he's back for more!)

A smile from my Maya!

Hope you had a great Memorial Day weekend too!

  1. What a fun Memorial Day! It looks like you guys had a great weekend, and sounds like the kids did well traveling. Yay! I'm sure that was a relief! It looks like it was just a relaxing and fun time! Cute pictures of them at the water table too. Whoever invented that needs a thanks from me, it will keep Cooper entertained forever!
