Summer family activities

We have had some fun family outings this summer while we are in the apartment.  In between house hunting adventures, we have made lots of time to enjoy the beautiful summer weather we are having.

Our apartment is really close to Shawnee Mission Park, which has the biggest dog park in the city.  Piper has been enjoying these family walks too so she can get off leash and explore with us.  See how she made her way into our family selfie?
On this day, we packed sack lunches and waters and stopped and ate on our walk.
The kids have really taken to watching out for Piper and worrying about her.  She wasn't feeling well at the beginning of the move into the apartment and my little nurse's aides took excellent care of her.  Now they love taking her on walks through the park and also around the sidewalks apartment complex on their scooters and bikes!

 We love our Piper!
I believe this day was a family bike ride down the Indian Creek trail.  Darin pulls the kids behind him in the bike trailer and they love it!

On another Shawnee Mission Park day, we took a canoe ride on the lake.  It was so peaceful, until the kids began complaining about it being boring for them.  The beach looked like more fun!  So we headed there next.

Nolan saw some of the kids burying their mom and thought that looked like a good idea so he asked me to bury him!

Then it was Maya's turn, but we turned her into a mermaid.  Can you make out her sandy mermaid tail?

Swim time in the lake!!

We also went to the top of the tower at the park.  It is a lot of steep stairs but the kids made it just fine!  Quite the view!

We also went to Bass Pro one day to look at tents.  The kids wanted to take a look at the boats though and give them a test drive.  We checked them ALL out. Captain Maya liked this one the best.
We also went by Daddy's office one day and went to lunch with him at Twisted.  Perhaps FedEx should hire Maya for her work ethic.  :)

We have had quite a lot of quality family time this summer without a house and a yard to tend to.  Lots of trips to the Farmer's Market (Overland Park and Downtown) tried some new restaurants, and tried out some new parks.  It has been challenging, but also a great time to focus on what is important....our family.
