Winter adventures!

We had lots of activities this winter.  I posted earlier about the kids' birthday...

Here they are with their treats....Maya picked cheesy popcorn and Nolan picked cookie cake.
One of the gifts Maya really liked...matching PJ's with her new American Girl doll.
This winter we also had a couple of sleepovers with Lana and Janae.  This one was fun...we finished the night with ice cream from Culvers!  Janae is off camera finishing hers off.
Nolan lost his first tooth this winter!  He lost his second tooth a few weeks after that.  The tooth fairy left him $3 for his first tooth and $2 for his second.  Maya is really anticipating losing her teeth now!
We also had a playdate with the Smotrillas at Gwyn's  house.  The kids had a lot of fun together!
One of the warmer days in January we went with the Dills to the  Shawnee Mission Dog Park.  It had been cold and the lake had frozen over but it was a warm day on this day.  People were walking across the lake!  Gwyn and I couldn't believe they were being so bold on such a warm day.  Can you see how far out they went?!
We let the kids walk out on the very edge where it was frozen (and probably a few inches deep even if it wasn't).  They thought it was pretty cool.
Another first--Nolan got glasses!  In January we found out he couldn't see out of his right eye very well.  He has a focusing issue and we are working to get it corrected as much as possible before he turns 7 and his brain stops adjusting for vision.

After seeing a pediatric opthalmalogist we have also decided to do patching to speed up the process.  For about a month we patched about 5 hours a day (after school) and then for about 3 months we are aiming for 2 hours a day.  It's possible that by this summer he won't need patching at all anymore! He has adapted very well to these new situations and just takes everything in stride!

One day this winter we went to the new Prairie Fire Dinosaur museum Discovery Center.  Along with seeing snakes, frogs and butterflies, the kids got a chance to hold a hissing cockroach.  Nolan said NO WAY but Maya was brave and took the challenge!
This little boy can do puzzles!  This is a 200 piece puzzle that he just finished.  So impressed with his skills!
Showing off his tooth in his Nonnie-made tooth fairy pillow!

One of the Christmas activities the kids got was a Geode kit.  Each box came with 5 geodes for the kids to crack open.  They saved all the pieces afterwards because they were so sparkly inside.  It's so cute how much the kids are excited about it.  Nolan especially loves all types of science including earth science so he was thrilled to smash these geodes open!

We didn't get very much snow this winter but the little bit we did get we tried to take advantage of!  This was a cute snowball fight in the backyard.  I'm not sure who won but they had fun!

We also went to the Lowe's big hill to go sledding one afternoon before the snow melted!

We had a great first winter in our new house!
