Summer days drifting away...

We have been having a great summer so far. Here are some more pictures of the fun and funny things the kids have been up to!

The first week of August was the Johnson County Fair in Gardner. Gwyn and I took the kids and learned that next year we'll pick a different day and time. It was sort of lackluster...but the kids enjoyed looking at the horses as they were being judged. Gwyn snapped this picture as our city kids lined up to see the gigantic horses at the fair.

Back at home, we like to lounge. In the mornings when I am getting ready, the kids like to hang out in my bedroom. Sometimes I turn the cartoons on to entertain them. On this morning, they both found a pillow and lounged so comfortably that I grabbed my camera before they could move. Ahhhhh...this is the life!

Nolan has taken to putting this plastic box on his head. He thinks it's his hat. I wonder how he doesn't run into the wall!

They both have finally started showing interest in these walking toys we got them last Christmas. Nolan likes to double-fist it,

Maya is content with her clickity-clackity alligator.

Since Maya is communicating better and better, she has started to ask for things that surprise me...like a morning nap. She whines and whines for her doggie, which means her doggie blanket that she sleeps with. When I ask her if she wants a nap, she just giggles until I lay her down. Then she sighs and goes to sleep. On mornings when she doesn't want/get a nap, she gets tired early. I couldn't believe it when she fell asleep during lunch a couple of weeks ago.

We also go and visit Grandad in Overland Park and bring him cookies. This day we had just been to a Mr. Stinky Feet concert earlier in the day. Nolan must have been tired because he wasn't feeling quite as social as usual. Grandad took it in stride.

Maya was content though and showed Grandad the new toy she was playing with from Grandad's toy box.

Nolan was excited to find Grandad's piano and bang out a few musical numbers.

Back at home, Miss Maya loves to have her hair blow in the wind. When I leave the fan on in my room it is just her height!

I got the kids a Thomas Train collapsible tent this spring. Nolan's new thing is to turn it on it's side. It makes Maya pretty unhappy, but Nolan doesn't care. Then he figured out how much fun it was to stand up through the window and he kept popping up like a prairie dog.

Maya and Nolan both like to "walk funny." I don't know where this came from, but when you tell them to, they both start to walk awkwardly all hunched over and chicken-like. It's hilarious!!!

Here they are doing their walk in the living room.

Another morning pastime is reading books. As soon as I get them out of bed, they run for the bookshelf. Some mornings I lay on the carpet and try and get a few more minutes of shut-eye while they read books to themselves.

A couple of posts back I showed some pictures of Maya flexing her muscles. Just to be fair, here is Nolan giving his best flexing pose. Go Nolan!

  1. I love the "funny walks"! That makes me laugh! How cute! And I love Maya asleep at her high chair - so great you captured that! Cole has the same click clack alligator as Maya! We just used it in his 2 year pics. :)

  3. I'm laughing out loud at the "walk funny"! Hilarious! We need video! Or better yet, a play date so they can teach David and Margot. And I love the picture of Maya and the fan....
